Fundamentals of Air Dispersion Modeling
This intensive 2-day course focuses on the scientific and regulatory basis of dispersion modeling and provides a solid foundation for conducting modeling studies or reviewing studies prepared by others. Students learn how a dispersion model estimates the effects of atmospheric turbulence, stack conditions, building downwash, and nearby terrain to predict ground-level pollutant concentrations with emphasis on AERMOD and its associated screening tool, AERSCREEN. This course, in conjunction with the 2-day Computer Modeling Laboratory, or as a stand alone course is ideal both as an introduction to modeling for newly assigned employees as well as an update for middle management to effectively supervise employees in modeling applications and negotiate with agencies on modeling issues.

Dispersion Modeling for Managers - Planning and Review
This is a one day course for environmental managers who review, manage, or use dispersion modeling as a tool for completing air quality studies as part of compliance studies or permitting submittals. The course covers the fundamentals of modeling concepts and regulatory requirements for state and federal permitting. Both screening and refined modeling tools are presented within the context of the basic physics of the atmosphere as well the practical aspects of model set up, model objectives, source characterization, meteorology, and interpretation of results. Hands on example problems give the manager a practical view of modeling and dispel the sometimes daunting science of modeling allowing a better comprehension of model differences, complicating factors, and uncertainties.

Practical Air Dispersion Modeling Workshop
This three day workshop is intended for individuals with little or no prior knowledge of air dispersion modeling techniques for continuous releases.
New regulations require dispersion models to be used to estimate the magnitude of pollutants from industrial sources on populations both near and far from the point of release. The course will focus on the fundamentals of air dispersion modeling with hands on application of the BREEZE AERMOD modeling system. AERMOD is the most widely applied modeling application to simulate ambient concentrations from emissions under normal operations. Participants will gain an understanding of how to apply AERMOD to compute pollutant concentrations, estimate plume rise, building downwash, terrain effects, and review model results.
